There’s probably a threshold for owing back taxes that disqualifies a candidate for appointment to a high position. Ron Kirk, President Barack Obama’s nominee for trade representative, apparently hasn’t met it. The Senate Finance Comittee reports that Kirk, a former mayor of Dallas, owes roughly $10,000 in back federal taxes and has agreed to pay them.
