A good sign, but if veteran expert Riedel isn’t in a position to effect or design policy, he’ll be a wasted asset. Post-Watergate Democrats love nothing more than to have one commission after another yield volumes and volumes of recommendations. But no one takes these seriously except as a partisan bludgeon.
