John Madden Retires From Broadcasting After 30 Years in the Booth

John Madden, a fixture in NFL broadcast booths for 30 years, has decided to retire, he announced Thursday in a statement released by NBC Sports.

Many folks dislike Madden’s style, but I think you have to view him as one of history’s top broadcasters, and certainly an innovator in his time. He’s less cartoonish and more knowledgeable than, say, Dick Vitale – and he’s called some particularly memorable games as teamed with Michaels.
