The favorite for best picture stars a cast of unknown Indian actors, is partially subtitled and almost never got released. Meanwhile, a crop of unheralded performers have stepped out of the shadows after years of relative obscurity to earn Oscar nominations alongside some of the biggest A-list names in Hollywood.
